The birthplace of Pythagoras

Pythagoras was born in Pythagorion 570 B.C. He was a philosopher and made important developments in mathematics, astronomy, and the theory of music. The statue of Pythagoras is located on the pier of Pythagorion.

The castle of Polykrates

Polykrates ruled Samos from 538 until 522 B.C. He built the port and the castle in Pythagorion, the fortification walls, the Efpalinos Tunnel, and the Heraion temple.

Cleopatra and Antonios Beach

The island was a popular holiday destination before the time of Christ. In the year 31 B.C. Cleopatra and Antonios lived their love in the ancient areas of Pythagorion.

The Panionic League

Samos, Ephesus, and Miletus were members of the famous Panionic League of Ionian city states.
